Description

Become a STEM Ambassador with Centre of the Cell

Induction and Training: Thursday 20th October 2.30pm – 5.00pm (Garrod Building 2.36, Whitechapel Campus)

Centre of the Cell (https://www.centreofthecell.org/) is the first science education centre in the world to be located within biomedical research laboratories; the Blizard Institute at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. We're looking for staff and PhD students to share their expertise and enthusiasm as STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) Ambassadors.

Ambassadors are individuals with skills and backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) who volunteer to work with young people in a wide variety of settings to support teachers in enhancing and enriching the relevant parts of the school curriculum. By registering as a STEM Ambassador, you will become a member of a nationally recognised volunteer programme, managed locally in London by STEMNET (http://www.stemnet.org.uk/).

Anyone with an enthusiasm for science and a wish to convey that enthusiasm to children and young people is welcome. You will be needed for just one day a year - unless you wish to do more!

The STEM Ambassador Induction will familiarise you with the STEM Ambassadors programmes, provide tips about working effectively and safely with children and introduce you to the Centre of the Cell education activities. We will also check your ID documents to complete your DBS application. More details will follow with your ticket.

For more information, please contact Katie Chambers on k.chambers@qmul.ac.uk or 020 7882 2565.
